“Your search is finally over ladies .. Peter is the most amazing DJ i have ever met! We still have guests telling us what an amazing time they had at our wedding, and we owe it all to Peter! He really knew how to get everyone on the dance floor, including all of the Italians 🙂 .. He loves what he does and it really shows! He was extremely helpful throughout the entire wedding process! Don’t hesitate, as I booked him TWO years before my wedding because I knew how amazing he was! And I was not disappointed!!!!” NuImage Bride – Adele       www.Nuimagedj.com

What made you want to become a DJ and how did you get your start?
I remember going to local restaurants where this guy was DJ’ing. People were having a good time and I thought it would be fun to DJ. I started DJ’ing for him, but it wasn’t until I saw Peter Accolla DJ a wedding that I was hooked! I was blown away by Peter’s professionalism, music choice and his presence as an entertainer, not “just” a DJ. While I had the raw skills NuImage gave me the opportunity to showcase my talents and I quickly became known for my MC’ing, jaw-dropping, inspirational introductions, music selection, and attention to detail. 12 years later I’m still at it with NuImage.

What is your personal favorite part of a wedding event?
DJ’ing a wedding is very special for me. I’m always reminded about something my wife told me. She said, “Brides think about their wedding from the time they were a little girl. The last thing they want is some DJ to mess it up!”. You can imagine how that made me feel! She was right though. That’s how I treat every wedding. I love the introductions and watching the crowd get so excited for the couple. I love the father/daughter dance and think about the day when I’ll dance with my girls. And I love when a Bride and Groom or a guest tells me that the wedding was the best they have ever been to.

What’s the most unique thing you’ve done to customize an event?
Sometimes you have to call in a favor and that’s just what I did. Megan and Tim love the Boston Bruins and their wedding was during the playoffs. They are huge fans and they had a Bruins wedding theme. I called our friend, Rene Rancourt, legendary singer of the National Anthem for the Bruins, and asked if he’d leave me a voice message wishing Megan and Tim congratulations. He did that and then started singing the National Anthem. I played it for the crowd and they went nuts! It was awesome and the Bruins won that night.

I own a bicycle shop called Fit Werx, which specializes in Road and Triathlon Bikes, based in Peabody, MA. We were named the best Bike Shop in America in 2013. In addition, I completed an Ironman Triathlon in 2010 which consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon.

My favorite food is…
Italian!

On your day off you can be found…
What’s a day off? With my business, training for triathlons, DJ’ing, I don’t have a ton of down time and I like that. With that said, on my days off I can found hanging with my family… it’s the most important part of my life and I cherish the time with my wife and girls.

In this week’s meet the DJ post, we are happy to get up close and personal with Guy Nicotra. Joining the DJ game at the young age of 16, Guy has performed at over 800 weddings and has expanded his skills with each.

His outstanding personality and experience with dance crowds at both weddings and special events have gained him rave reviews with clients and referrals for new events. From the very beginning, he was drawn to the art of entertainment and the ability to get people of all ages out on the dance floor and having a blast.

Since joining NuImage Entertainment in the early 90s, Guy has become a professional in the field with a reputation of the highest standards. Luckily, in his many years as a DJ, Guy’s biggest fear (see below) has never come to life! 🙂

How long have you been with Nuimage?
My start with NuImage was back in May of 1992 when I saw Peter, the owner of NuImage perform at my grandparents Golden 50th wedding anniversary. I was 16 years old and amazed at how Peter took grasp of the room. He made family members dance that I had never seen move before. I had helped him carry some gear to his car and by the end of conversation, the story began.

What is your personal favorite part of a wedding event?
Seeing the happiness and excitement in a newlywed couple is a given. But as far as a true peak in gratification. It goes beyond transforming the crowd and setting the atmosphere with a killer wedding party introduction. It supersedes high fives from guests as they “dance walk” by you. It’s the moment when you glance up and see the parents breaking it down on one end of the dance floor and the bride and groom surrounded by their closest tearing it up on the other end. Mission accomplished!!

What are your hobbies?
If it’s not traveling, kiteboarding, surfing or snowboarding it’s going off on adventures with my family. And whether it’s watching my oldest stepson nail a trick in a BMX competition to my youngest stepson scoring a game winning touchdown/run, you can usually find me outside soaking up the sun and surrounding myself with nature.

Where is the best place you’ve ever traveled to? Somewhere you’ve never been that you’ve LOVE to travel to?
I’ve always been very passionate about traveling and a few years back I had the opportunity to road trip around Costa Rica. From the excursions in the rainforest, surfing the coast to watching Mt Arenal erupt every night from my jungle hut made Costa Rica truly a fave.
Tahiti, Patagonia and Iceland are at the top for future trips and hopefully one day Egypt. I’d love to visit Egypt.

My biggest fear.
The first thing that comes to mind is kind of an ongoing joke amongst most DJs I’ve talk with over the years. It’s that recurring dream that you’re late for a wedding. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this dream and it gets me every time. LOL

NuImage DJ: Sean Naughton

What made you want to become a DJ and how did you get your start?
Initially, I was in search of a part-time job. One day Peter Accolla, owner of NuImage, asked if I was interested in working as an assistant for an anniversary party at the Danversport Yacht Club. It sounded like an exciting start down a new path so I agreed to help out. After that first party, I was HOOKED. I knew that this was what I wanted to do.

How long have you been with NuImage?
My first contract was in May of 1997. As I mentioned above, I was hooked from the start and have been rocking dance floors at events ever since.

What is your style as a DJ/MC?
I’d say my style is easy going , sprinkled with energy and experience. In my years of experience I’ve learned that keeping a calm vibe and knowing when to infuse a punch of energy or slow it down for a sentimental dance is key.

On average, how many weddings do you do per year?
Each year I work about 50 wedding events, sometimes as many as 70. With each being unique, it is definitely exciting to have so many new experiences as a DJ.

What is your personal favorite part of a wedding event?
I love welcoming everyone at beginning of an event and watching the guests as I get to work and change the vibe of the room in minutes….

Do you work other events besides weddings?
While I LOVE working weddings, I also do high end fundraising and work with corporate clients. I’ve also done up lighting for many different events and have worked with clients for a number of different parties – anniversary, retirement and more. Basically I’m up for anything, wedding and non-wedding events alike!

What’s the most unique thing you’ve done to customize an event?
One of the coolest things I’ve done was worked with a bride and groom to stream their wedding live to Brazil. There were close to 5000 people watching and interacting with us! We could hear and see all of the guests in Brazil …It was AMAZING!

Another unique moment I created for a couple was when I brought all of the wedding guests outside from an inside reception, seamlessly, to take part in a beautiful last dance. The dance was out under the stars, overlooking Boston, with sparklers and up lighting. It was definitely a memorable moment for the couple… and me!

What is your all-time favorite/funniest moment from an event you worked?
I’ve seen a lot over the years… but my all-time favorite AND funniest moment was when a grandfather of the bride, 91 years young, came out in 1980’s break dancing gear to a packed dance floor, and nailed the ( running man ice ice baby ).

What tips do you have for anyone hiring a DJ for a special event?
Your wedding day will fly by in a blur. As the biggest party you will likely host, every second is important, not hour. Have thorough plans and professional vendors in place to make it an AMAZING memory , not a talked about disaster…

What is your favorite song of all time?
I have to go with SEPTEMBER… Earth Wind Fire
